Frequently Asked Questions
Small batteries can become hazardous when damaged, crushed, punctured, or incorrectly disposed of in general waste streams. Fires linked to lithium batteries have increasingly been reported within waste trucks and recycling facilities.
ReLoop currently focuses on the collection of small household-style batteries, disposable vape products, vape pods, and small embedded battery devices commonly found in workplace environments.
Where possible, batteries should be kept away from metal objects, stored in a cool dry location, and isolated if damaged. Exposed battery terminals should always be taped before disposal.
Damaged devices should be handled carefully and isolated where possible. If you are unsure, contact ReLoop for guidance before disposal.
ReLoop currently provides scheduled monthly collections for both small battery and vape waste streams. Collection frequency may be adjusted depending on workplace requirements, and additional collection units can be provided where needed.
Collected materials are transferred through approved local downstream recycling and processing partners for responsible handling and disposal.
ReLoop is currently supporting selected workplace pilot programmes across major New Zealand CBD locations.
